7-Month-Old Baby Jarryd Beats the Odds: A Father's Love and a Miracle in India

Every patient journey is special, but some stories leave a lasting impact on our hearts. Today, we are proud to share the inspiring journey of Baby Jarryd, a 7-month-old boy from Papua New Guinea (PNG), whose life was transformed through a complex and life-saving heart surgery in India.

A Critical Diagnosis

Baby Jarryd was diagnosed with Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV), a rare and serious congenital heart defect in which both major arteries arise from the right ventricle of the heart. This abnormality causes oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor blood to mix, preventing the body from receiving the oxygen it needs. Children born with DORV often face severe health challenges, including:

• Difficulty breathing

• Bluish discoloration of lips and skin

• Poor weight gain

• Extreme fatigue

• Critically low oxygen levels

Doctors in PNG informed the family that the condition was highly complex, and treatment options within the country were extremely limited.

A Father's Determination to Save His Son

For Baby Jarryd's father, Mr. Terence Lames, the diagnosis was devastating. It reopened old wounds from a heartbreaking tragedy—he had previously lost another 7-month-old child to a heart condition.

Refusing to give up hope, Mr. Terence began searching for every possible option that could save his son's life. The following day, Baby Jarryd underwent a highly complex Arterial Switch Surgery with VSD Closure.

Before surgery, his oxygen saturation levels remained dangerously low, fluctuating between 60% and 80%, making it difficult for him to breathe and thrive.

The surgery was successful.

After the procedure, Baby Jarryd's oxygen saturation improved dramatically to 95%—a level expected in a healthy child. His breathing stabilized, and his overall condition improved significantly.

The doctors delivered the news every parent dreams of hearing:

"Your son can now live a normal and healthy life."

For Mr. Terence and his family, it was the happiest moment of their lives—a moment that turned fear into hope and despair into joy.
