From Wheelchair to Walking: Arishma's Inspiring Journey of Courage, Healing, and Hope

Arishma, a brave young girl from Fiji, lost her leg in a tragic accident in 2018 and was confined to a wheelchair, her mobility and independence severely limited. Over the next six years—exacerbated by the inactivity during the COVID-19 pandemic—she gained nearly 90 kg, reaching a weight of around 150 kg, which made even basic movement extremely difficult. When she arrived at Medivisor India Treatment in 2024, our team took on the challenge of transforming her life.

A complex laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy was performed to address her severe obesity, followed by intensive physiotherapy to strengthen her long-unused muscles. With unwavering support from her devoted mother, grandmother, and the Medivisor team, Arishma lost over 50 kg. Once she regained sufficient strength, a prosthetic limb was fitted—and today, she can stand and walk again. Her journey is a shining example of resilience, medical excellence, and the power of hope.
