Why should women urinate just after sex
It is often advised women should urinate just after sex. Why?
In women, urethra (a tube through which urine is passed out of the body) is extremely close to the anus and disease-causing-fecal bacteria.
During sexual intercourse, penis gets rubbed here and there and this increases the chances of fecal bacteria hitting the urethra and entering into bladder, causing inflammation and Urinary Tract Infection.
Urinating just after sex can help women flush these bacteria out of the body and keep UTI at bay.
This is important for women also because women do not ejaculate through urethra as men do. So the only way to flush out bacteria gained during sex is through urination, advisably within 30 minutes.
7 additional ways to prevent UTI
Do not hold urine. Empty your bladder completely.
Move hand from from front-to-back i.e. towards lower back while cleaning your anus. Moving hand back-to-front i.e. towards urethra can bring the bacteria towards it.
Drink lots of water to flush the urinary tract and bacteria, if any.
Avoid feminine hygiene sprays and douches. They can irritate the urethra and cause infection. .
Cleanse your genital area before and after sex. From back-to-front.
Wear cotton underwear. Nylon underwear can trap moisture, creating the perfect environment for bacteria growth.
Consult doctor if symptoms occur (burning sensation during urination, frequent urge to urinate, pain or pressure in the back or lower abdomen, cloudy, dark, bloody, or strange-smelling urine, weakness, fever or chills)
